Oasis of the Seas in the Caribbean // RCCL April 2022

The ship was refurbished in 2019 so everything looked and felt new. “The original Game changer” as it was referred to many times throughout the week. When you step onboard you are on the 5th level which includes many shops, bars and coffee shop and pizzeria. It is the hangout center of the ship., most days you would find people sitting in chairs turned towards the middle of the area so they could watch people walking by.

The ship was huge, It held 5,780 pax and almost 3,000 crew members. I believe it was about 75% capacity. The only time we felt like there was a crowd was the one day we went to the Windjammer café “buffet”. We only went once and that was enough. The main dining was very nice and the food was very good. I highly recommend making dinner reservations for main dining each morning, otherwise you have to wait in line to be seated.

We ate at 3 specialty restaurants.

Izumi– Japanese Hibachi – We went to the Hibachi restaurant the first night, the food was great and the chef’s jokes were corny.

Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant was the culinary highlight, I think they thought we had 4 people dining. The waiter brought us a cheese and meat tray, minestrone soup, Caesar salad, Porchetta bacon, octopus, 3 kinds of pasta, steak and shrimp and 5 desserts. The food we amazing. Highly recommend trying it out.

Chops Steak House– Reminded me of an old school steak place. We were seated outside in the Central Park area, it made you feel like you were in New York. The steaks were very good.

The entertainment – hmm, what can I say. Reservations were required at most shows for capacity control, which was good and bad, we couldn’t get reservations for everything we wanted to do. There was a singer from The Letterman group (from the 60’s) he had an amazing voice. We were supposed to see the Play Cats, but they had technical issues and ended up doing a Cabaret, where some of the cast sang some of their favorite songs. We were disappointed that we weren’t able to see the show. Aqua Show, was canceled one night do to high winds, but rescheduled the following night. It was by far the most amazing show. They had a swimming pool that changed from a stage to a pool and back again multiple times. There were people walking on a tightrope over our heads and high diving from the 16th deck to the pool where we were on the 6th deck.

What to do onboard– There were two wave pools for people to surf, rock climbing wall, a large slide called the Abyss that looked like a large waterslide, but people went down it on rugs from the 16th floor to the 6th floor. There was a Carousel for kids and adults to ride on, a sports bar to watch your favorite sporting event and order bar food (extra cost), but very good food. They had a hot dog stand, ice cream window and candy shop all on the Boardwalk along with some carnival type games. We food a nice quiet spot on the 5th floor walking/running track at the back of the ship, they had some lounge chairs where you could sit and just listed to the waves. Excellent spot to read a book.

Excursions– We booked a couple excursions, mostly beachy. We did a Mexican cooking/beach day. We cooked shrimp sopas, baked fish, and for dessert made plantains coated with butter, sugar and cinnamon. All while sipping on frozen daquiri’s. Then after we ate our creations we had a couple hours on the beach.

Perfect Day at Coco Cay– ok, this was actually a pretty awesome day. You could go to the water park, or rent a beach mat to float on and hand out on Chill Island. Lunch was included as a bbq buffet.

Roatan Honduras– Beach getaway, we took a 20 min bus trip to a beach resort, luckily we were the 1st group to arrive so we had our choice of beach chairs under the palm tree to protect us from the sun. Four or Five more groups arrived after us, each group had their own waiter to bring you drinks throughout the day. Our waiter was amazing, he was literally running to get drinks and deliver them. We played in the water, picked up shells and relaxed. Lunch was include in this excursion as well.

On our way back to the ship we stopped to shop and found a fish therapy stand. I had to try it. You slowly put your bare feet in the water and these small (tiny) fish eat the dead skin off of your feet. It was relaxing and weird at the same time. It felt like small buzzing vibrations on my feet.
