WEATHER

May is the start of winter in Peru and one of the best times to visit. It is considered the dry season and tends to be less crowded than the months of July and August.

Lima will be dry with virtually no rain but, during this time of year, there tends to be constant cloud cover. Average temperatures will be in the low 70s during the day and low 60s in the evenings.

The Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu are at a lower altitude than Cusco and tend to be warmer. It will be in the high 60s to low 70s during the day and will cool down in the evenings to the 50s.

Cusco will be a bit cooler due to its high altitude but expect lots of sunshine. Daytime temperatures tend to be in the mid to high 60s and, in the evenings, it can cool down to the 40s.

In the Amazon, the rainfall will ease up but the water levels will still be high from the previous wet months. Temperatures in May will be in the high 80s during the day and low 70s in the evening. Humidity is always a factor year round.

For the most accurate forecast, we suggest checking www.weather.com or www.wunderground.com closer to departure. For the Sacred Valley, you will want to search for Urubamba. For the Amazon River, you will want to search for Iquitos.
