Exploring these areas will reveal fantastic contrasts of old and new, sophisticated and rustic, metropolitan and jungle, mountains and ocean, and luxury and simplicity. Most are familiar with its geographical wonders in Machu Picchu and the Amazon Rainforest, but Peru’s rich history, diverse wildlife, sumptuous cuisine, and devotion to art and textiles by the friendly and welcoming Peruvians are certain to capture your imagination.

We don’t make any promises here—only a trip of a lifetime! Come enjoy it with us!

PERU PACKING RECOMMENDATIONS

Outlined below are packing recommendations for the main trip and the Amazon River Cruise post-trip.

WEIGHT ALLOWANCE: Due to internal flights within Peru, each person is limited to (1) checked piece of luggage up to 50 pounds and (1) carry-on bag that can fit under your seat or in the overhead bin. Excess or overweight luggage will incur extra fees by the airlines.

Casual attire is appropriate throughout the entire trip. Comfortable clothing that is appropriate for the weather is recommended during the day. Layering your clothes will come in handy as it usually starts out cool in the mornings and warms up as the day goes on. For dinners, whether out on your own or during group events, evening casual attire is acceptable. Evening casual attire includes long pants and collared shirts for men and skirts, dresses and pants and blouses for ladies.

For footwear, we recommend one comfortable pair of walking shoes that can be used for hikes and walking around the city. For ladies, if you are bringing dressy shoes, you will want to consider something flat or at least lower-heeled for walking in the cities, where there is uneven pavement and cobblestones.

A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are a must to protect you from the sun.

A bathing suit and sandals will be necessary to enjoy the pools at the hotels.

For the Amazon River Cruise post-trip, shipboard attire is always casual whether daytime or evening. Clothing while ashore during your cruise requires the right gear and it is essential for enjoying the full experience without the limitations of weather and other conditions. Please see below for a list of items to consider packing for this trip:

  • Comfortable walking/hiking shoes (durable, waterproof or resistant and preferably ankle-height)
  • Sandals or flip flops for walking around the boat
  • Quick drying and lightweight clothing
  • Lightweight long pants
  • Lightweight rain gear
  • Long-sleeved tops for jungle excursions
  • Wide-brimmed hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Extra socks
  • Mosquito repellent with DEET
  • Bathing suit
  • Binoculars

Aqua Expeditions provides the following onboard:

  • Rubber boots for use during trip while on wetland excursions
  • Waterproof ponchos with hoods to protect against rain
  • A hairdryer in every suite
  • 220-volt outlets in the staterooms (you will need an adapter to plug in your devices, chargers, etc.)

Peruvian woman with her baby in Chinchero village. The Sacred Valley of the Incas or Urubamba Valley is a valley in the Andes of Peru, close to the Inca capital of Cusco and below the ancient sacred city of Machu Picchu. The valley is generally understood to include everything between Pisac and Ollantaytambo, parallel to the Urubamba River, or Vilcanota River or Wilcamayu, as this Sacred river is called when passing through the valley. It is fed by numerous rivers which descend through adjoining valleys and gorges, and contains numerous archaeological remains and villages. The valley was appreciated by the Incas due to its special geographical and climatic qualities. It was one of the empire's main points for the extraction of natural wealth, and the best place for maize production in Peru.http://bem.2be.pl/IS/peru_380.jpg
